Now, I don't know about you but that seems like a whole lot of medical mumbo jumbo. In a nutshell, a night terror is when you wake up in a panic. Usually after a nightmare, but you do not always remember it.
Now, what is the difference between a nightmare and a night terror? Nightmares, you can talk to someone or simply just calm yourself down. During a night terror episode, you are literally inconsolable.
Meaning nothing and no one can calm you down. Sometimes when I have night terrors, I am on edge and freaking out at everything for the rest of the day. I see the image of that nightmare in my mind for the rest of the day.
Sometimes it even lasts a couple days! The panic just won't go away. Everything you see that reminds you of that image in your mind or the feeling you had re-awakens the panic. It's a vicious cycle.
